After the month long rollercoaster ride that has been who will be Mason Greenwood‘s next club, we may finally have our answer.
On Monday morning Greenwood reported to Carrington with the rest of the United squad returning to pre-season training, however instead of joining the session, the winger met with the Old Trafford management to discuss his move away from Manchester. The meeting itself was a brief one and was reported as being productive to try and move conversations along to secure a deal for Greenwood away from United.
Marseille’s bid for the 22-year-old was actually the second offer the United received for the young star, following an initial offer from Lazio, however the Ligue 1 side reportedly outbid the Serie A club.
Greenwood has been the main target for Marseille this summer, a feeling which is mutual with the Ligue 1 club being the winger’s preferred destination of all the interested parties such as Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and Napoli.
Reports from The Athletic claim that Marseille have now reached an agreement with Manchester United for Mason Greenwood, with the move now remaining in the hands of the man himself to approve the transfer.
The deal would see the Ligue 1 side pay United a total of €31.6 million (£26.7 million), comprising €27.6 million (£23.3 million) fixed and €4 million (£3.4 million) in add-ons, plus a big percentage of any future sale.
With Greenwood being a graduate of the United academy, his sale will be regarded as pure profit under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), bringing in more funds to United’s transfer budget, marking potentially the first of United’s shortlist of sales to get across the line.
