David Moyes has warned Ruben Amorim that Manchester United’s star players may throw him under the bus if performances wither.
The Scot spent only eight months with United before he was sacked in April 2014.
He bore the burden of being Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor and ultimately failed to live up to the expectations, leading United to a seventh-place finish in his only season.
He recently spoke about Amorim’s appointment and warned him of United’s current state.

David Moyes on United’s Star Players
The 61-year-old noted that the players will be forced to step up upon Amorim’s arrival.
He also criticised their lack of responsibility for their poor performances and encouraged them to admit their failures, rather than always letting the manager take the hit.
‘I’ve got to say, he’s in a completely different situation,’ Moyes said on the Stick to Football podcast.
‘I think at the moment, players might be looking now and saying, “Hey by the way, if we don’t step up…”
‘The manager might be coming from a stronger position because these players are going to have to actually step up.
‘It’s not always calling the players out, but I see it a little bit where I think the players are quite happy to hide behind managers at the moment, let the managers take the hit.
‘I could do with some of them coming out and saying, “By the way, I know I’m not quite at it at the moment, I’m not playing well enough just now”.
‘We’re not getting much of that – and I actually think Manchester United have got really, really talented players.’

United have lost ‘a bit of class’
David Moyes went on to say that he believes United have lost some class as a club.
He referenced their their ruthless hire and fire approach in recent years and argued that they should give managers more leeway.
He mentioned that Sir Alex was given time to settle into his role, despite not winning a trophy in his first four years at United.
‘They didn’t sack managers. When Alex wasn’t doing so well, they didn’t do it,’ he said.
‘They stood for something which was really admirable, they stood for something which you say, “By the way, this club means a bit more. Yeah, it wants to win, but…”
‘A bit of class – and actually that probably dropped away, probably, at that time.’
