David de Gea has taken to social media to show support for his former teammate Lisandro Martinez.
The pair played together at Old Trafford for a year after Martinez arrived from Ajax, in de Gea’s final season before being released by the club.
After a year without a team, de Gea has returned to football, with Serie A side Fiorentina, grabbing six clean sheets across 21 games to help the Italian side hold sixth place in the league.
Now, the shot-stopper has sent his thoughts to The Butcher, as Martinez faces an extensive period on the side-lines.

David de Gea responds to Lisandro Martinez’s significant injury
In Manchester United’s recent matchup with Crystal Palace, Martinez was stretchered off in the 82nd minute, seemingly injuring his knee.
Now it’s been confirmed that Martinez has suffered a cruciate ligament injury which unfortunately could see him ruled out for the rest of the year, let alone the rest of the season.
Taking to X, de Gea posted several photos of the pair playing for United together, with the caption: “As always you do things… Like a warrior” with a heart emoji.
It’s not yet been confirmed how long Martinez will be ruled out, but Amorim will now need to restructure his plans having lost a vital member of his back three.
