We recently found our attention focused on Danica Rockwood’s Zero Suit Samus cosplay. This is one of the most iconic video game characters ever due to the surprise reveal at the end of the first Metroid that Samus was actually a female.
Of course, Zero Suit Samus, Samus outside of her Power Suit, wouldn’t actually be playable in a game until Metroid: Zero Mission (released February 9, 2004 in North America). Until she was able to reacquire her Power Suit, Samus was relegated to stealth tactics as she was vastly outmatched against the Space Pirates.
Funnily enough, Zero Suit Samus tends to be a better character than Samus (with her Power Suit equipped) in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. 4 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Needless to say, the emphasis on both reach and speed is quite the boon in platform brawlers.
We don’t get to see Zero Suit Samus’ Paralyzer or high-heeled Jet Boots in any of Danica Rockwood’s cosplay photos, but it should be noted that Zero Suit Samus is quite skilled at unarmed combat. Notably, she and Little Mac are the only characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate that have access to 1 frame jabs.
Regardless, Danica Rockwood ends up showing a unique take on Zero Suit Samus. She provides a look at her costume while performing a number of poses that we really haven’t seen from Samus over the years.
