This weekend saw the shock sacking of Dan Ashworth from his sporting director role by Manchester United.
The 53-year-old was headhunted by INEOS to join United from Newcastle, with the club paying £3 million in compensation for his services.
Now, only five months later, and he’s departed the club, with United now rethinking their operational structure.
INEOS assembled a new team of operational directors, comprising of Omar Berrada, Jason Wilcox, Sir Dave Brailsford and Dan Ashworth.
However, the crumple of the group was reportedly inevitable with Samuel Luckhurst claiming a source has commented: “so many cooks and egos in the structure that it felt like it was destined to have someone leave”.
Ultimately that someone was Ashworth, with the sporting director feeling side-lined from big decisions like the hiring of Ruben Amorim.
However, Ashworth’s absence from the Premier League could be short-lived with two clubs interested in his services.

Dan Ashworth could return to the Premier League soon
It’s been reported recently that Arsenal could be looking to Ashworth as a replacement for their recently resigned Edu.
This appointment has potential with Arsenal’s managing director already having links with Ashworth, with the pair having worked together at West Brom.
However, another club have now come into the mix.
TalkSPORT have revealed that Ashworth is held in high regard by Everton owner Dan Friedkin.
Friedkin is set to become the owner of Everton later this month, pending Premier League approval, and it’s believed he’ll want to bring his own team in with him.
Whilst Everton already have Kevin Thelwell in the role of sporting director, it’s a real belief that Ashworth could be considered to replace him with Everton failing to finish in the top half of the Premier League for three years.
