Sonic Break (V-Trigger 1) has been the go-to V-Trigger for Guile in Street Fighter 5 over Knife Edge (V-Trigger 2) for many years now. It seems that Capcom had attempted to adjust this with the Definitive Update by slightly nerfing Guile’s V-Trigger 1 while improving V-Trigger 2.

In particular, the ability to special cancel into Flash Kick from most kick normals while V-Trigger 2 was active had given BST|Daigo Umehara hope that the character’s meta could drastically change in what is likely Street Fighter 5’s final version. Though Daigo was initially optimistic about this possibility, it seems that he is back to using V-Trigger 1 in most match ups.

“It’s totally possible that someone from the future shows up one day and asks ‘Are you guys still using V-Trigger 1?’” said Daigo one day. “I think that’s how good V-Trigger 2 could be. I just don’t want to play with V-Trigger 1 anymore.”

However, Daigo’s tune just straight up changed the very next day. Daigo was back to using V-Trigger 1 seemingly in most match ups. Over the course of that day, Daigo explained why V-Trigger 1 is probably still the better choice for Guile, much to his own disappointment.

“I took a walk yesterday for a very long time, and thought about whether V-Trigger 2 could actually be useful,” explained Daigo. “And the conclusion was that V-Trigger 2 is weak. I very much regret this conclusion.”

Following this, Daigo would then explain how Guile’s gameplan in a number relevant of match ups requires the player to play defensively. Daigo’s conclusion is that Guile’s V-Trigger 2 is counterintuitive to this gameplan.
