It’s only been a month since Akuma and the Season 2 patch were released for Street Fighter 6, but within that short span of time, M. Bison and an additional update also got released. Needless to say, Street Fighter 6 has changed a great deal since Season 1.
Although Rohto|Tokido recently announced that he’ll be sticking with Ken rather than switching to Akuma, it’s interesting to note that BST|Daigo Umehara has made the switch from Ken to Akuma. Daigo even exclusively used Akuma at CEO 2024.
The FGC Place recently highlighted some of Daigo’s online skirmishes as Akuma. Notably, he’s been running into some tough opponents.
It’s certainly interesting to see how Zangief went from being one of the weakest combatants in Street Fighter 6 to being a contender for top tier in Season 2. Though Akuma usually has an easy time abusing Zangief’s inherent flaws, Kobayan, the number two Zangief online, ends up giving Daigo a run for his money.
Daigo also ends up running into the second highest ranked Ryu user, YAS. This ends up being an interesting match up since Daigo used to be well established as being associated with Ryu due to his dominance during Street Fighter 4 with the character.
Finally, Daigo’s Akuma ends up taking on Dogura as he’s using the newest character in Street Fighter 6, M. Bison. Notably, M. Bison might have some of the highest damage in Street Fighter 6, which presents a tricky situation for Akuma, who has the lowest health in the game.
