With Evo 2024 now behind us, BST|Daigo Umehara took some time to reflect on some of the events that played out there. He briefly talked about his controller issues as well as FLY|Punk’s emotional first place victory.
Towards the end of the video, Daigo then commented on Akuma in Street Fighter 6. It’s certainly interesting to note that Daigo has continued to believe in Akuma even after Rohoto|Tokido announced that he’d be sticking with Ken rather than switching to Akuma as everyone had expected.
“People often ask if Akuma is good or not,” stated Daigo. “Surely he’s good. I mean, it’s just that he’s hard to use. He’s a character that takes a while to master. I think that’s all it is. As a character, he’s top class.”
Ultimately, Akuma is the only character in Street Fighter 6 with less than 10,000 stamina. To compensate for this, he has access to a higher than average number of special moves and tools.
“In culinary terms, it’s like, ‘Here, you’ve got to do this with the oil, now do this with the mushrooms,'” continued Daigo. “It’s hard to cook something like that and have it turn out good, right?”
“But then there are characters — I won’t say which — where it’s like, you just throw on some sauce and it turns out tasty,” declared Daigo. “Anyone can make the kind of dish where you just have to throw on some sauce.”
“He’s a character on complex flavors,” concluded Daigo. “Akuma is a ‘cuisine’ that requires rigorous training.”
