Given his legendary status in the fighting game community, one could argue that every one of BST|Daigo “The Beast” Umehara’s competitive matches are worthy of stream time as his many fans around the globe can’t get enough of his Street Fighter skill in action. That said, even Daigo has to run some off stream matches from time to time.
This was the case at CEO this weekend, but lucky for us one of his strongest pool competitors, Flappy, recorded his bout with The Beast and has shared it with the rest of us.
Daigo has been locked in with Akuma since he made his Street Fighter 6 debut just over a month ago. The storied shoto definitely has some of the strongest tools in the game with stellar walk speed, versatile combos, and tricky set ups, but his having 9/10 the health of most of his roster mates gives us pause to say he’s one of the best.
The community is widely wondering whether the array of strong tools is worth the low health, and seeing how a veteran like Daigo performs when the chips are down is one of the best ways to assess.
It seems as though Akuma could be a hypothetical best in the game, but perhaps only if a machine were controlling him. It can seem like there’s no difference between machine and human when players like Daigo are behind the buttons, but even The Beast hasn’t been pulling out any major victories with the demonic fighter.
Here we get to see the Japanese fighting game god’s Akuma clash with a strong up and comer from the West Coast as he takes on Flappy’s Luke in a very back and forth set.
See how it all goes down and if The Beast is able to keep his head above water in pools in the full video right here:
