Akuma is officially here in Street Fighter 6, and several of the biggest and best players on the scene today are diving head first into playing the new DLC character online to learn what all he can do in this iteration of the game.
So far, we’ve seen Akuma master Tokido and Momochi, who already has over 2,000 MR with the character, wrecking opponents online with the raging demon. Today, we have two more top players in Daigo Umehara and Go1 as they showcase some already strong looking tactics in battle with Street Fighter 6’s latest fighter.
This hot off the presses footage comes from fighting game online match replay mecca YogaFlame24. In it, we see Daigo and Go1 going up against one another while both using Akuma, as well as Daigo’s Akuma taking on a Ryu player by the name of Yas.
Throughout these sets, we see several strong combos on display. But outside of the hard-hitting stuff, which we’ve seen plenty of online on Twitter this week, Daigo and Go1 also demonstrate some very interesting and seemingly powerful tactics that aspiring Akuma players should definitely adopt.
One thing that I quickly noticed of Daigo’s Akuma is the frequency of which he goes for walk up throw in the neutral battle. Akuma’s walk speed is so fast that simply walking into your opponent’s space (after conditioning them not to just randomly hit buttons) and going for a regular throw can be a very effective tactic.
Speaking of swift grabs, Go1 also demonstrates a very slick tick Raging Demon set up. After Drive Rush cancelling a crouching medium kick, Go1 gets up close to Daigo, makes him block a crouching light punch, then goes right into Demon for a powerful round ender.
Something we also see Daigo go to a lot in these matches is raw heavy punch Adamant Flame in neutral. On block, this special move is only -2, making it a safe way to get offense started especially considering if it punish counters you can link crouching heavy punch afterwards. Just beware of perfect parries if you use it yourself.
