What Street Fighter 2 did for the fighting game genre, Super Smash Bros. did the same for inspiring platform fighters to become an expansive sub-genre in their own right with variety beyond the Nintendo mascots.

Longtime Smash pro Liquid|Dabuz recently released an interesting new tier list ranking every major Smash-like / platform fighter from best to worst, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is not amongst those at the top.

In fact, there’s only 1 official Smash game in the “best of the best” tier being Super Smash Bros. Melee, and even that only made it to number 3.

The best platform fighter of all time in Dabuz’s eyes is actually the Project+ / Project M mods for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which made the game play more like Melee and added a bunch of new content that’s still seeing updates now.

As for Smash Ultimate, the competitor places the newest entry one tier below the top, but you may be surprised to see Super Smash Bros. for Wii U above it (until you remember this is Dabuz).

MultiVersus is the latest big platform fighter to hit the stage, and Dabuz thinks it’s more than just okay though not as good as what PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and Smash 64 had to offer.

He ended up ranking 20 different games in total including Rivals of Aether, Brawlhalla, Rushdown Revolt, Nickelodeon Allstar Brawl, Slap City, Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion and Fraymakers — but not Shrek SuperSlam.

You can check out Dabuz’s full ordered tier list of platform fighters below where he specifically rates them on the game’s total package and not just the gameplay.
