Story snippets, Fatality, new skins, and more on display
As promised, Ed Boon and his team at NetherRealm Studios have dropped the new Cyrax gameplay and story trailer for the Mortal Kombat 1 Khaos Reigns update, which also offers us a release date for three of the game’s incoming DLC characters.
While clearly rooted in the character we’ve long known and loved, Cyrax has gone through changes involving more than just her gender. Continue on for our latest big look at the cybernetic fighter.
As is par for the course when it comes to the Lin Kuei, Cyrax is clearly wrapped up in threads of betrayal and unexpected alliances. We see her speaking with Scorpion about his disappearance, and a perhaps undesirable alignment with Sub-Zero.
Cyrax also throws down with Sektor later in the trailer, noting how while the latter is both her instructor and commander, she’s not her superior. They then launch into an awesome fight sequence wherein Cyrax shows off more backflip kicks and bombs.
Much of the character’s fighting style is themed with a sense of high-flying nimbleness as she almost dances through the air at (or on) opponents. This theme continues into her Fatality sequence as she basically uses parkour to kill Johnny Cage with a particular grace not seen in many of MK1’s kill animations.
Those who pre-order Khaos Reigns will also receive four new skins including Wedding Scorpion, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Sub-Zero, Empress Mileena, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Noob Saibot (pictured in image 9 of the gallery below).

Here you can view the full trailer, which shows off tons of Cyrax story footage, gameplay sequences, one of her Fatalities, the start of her hornet Animality and more:
Cyrax was initially revealed as part of the Kombat Pack 2 “Khaos Reigns” update that will bring with it six DLC characters (Ghostface from the Scream series, Conan the Barbarian, the T-1000 from Terminator 2, Noob Saibot, Sektor, and Cyax) and a story mode expansion.
Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot will be available to purchase and play when Khaos Reigns launches on September 24, Conan, Ghostface, and the T-1000 will be available at a later date.
There are actually three tiers available for Khaos Reigns: the “expansion,” the “bundle,” and the “kollection.” The expansion includes just the new characters and story mode addition, the bundle adds Kombat Pack 1 and the Jean Claude Van Damme Johnny Cage skin, and then the kollection adds the base game for those who have yet to pick up MK1.
