Mortal Kombat 1 fans got to see the new Cyrax gameplay trailer a few weeks back and were treated to Sektor’s gameplay trailer on Wednesday. These cinematic introductions offered beautiful presentations for Mortal Kombat 1’s next DLC characters, but now it’s time for a more in-depth look at the nitty gritty as NetherRealm Studios show us how each characters’ kits will work under the microscope with Thursday’s Kombat Kast live stream.
The stream is slated to kick off at 10 am PT, and we’ve got it embedded below so you can watch right along with us as Stephanie, Derrick, and Tyler explain how they designed some of Cyrax and Sektor’s most important maneuvers, and how they’ll generally play once they hit the game.
Cyrax and Sektor debuted back in Mortal Kombat 3 as developers at Midway expanded the franchise’s roster with a new type of character distinguishable from its growing number of palette swap ninjas.
The cybernetic ninjas have been fairly regular staples ever since, appearing in more MK entries than not over the years and through the various eras of Kombat. They’re both back in traditional form in Mortal Kombat 1 as Kameo tag assist characters, but will soon make it to the main character select screen as well… albeit in a very non-traditional manner.
Mortal Kombat 1’s story is based upon the premise that Liu Kang has reset the timeline and invented a whole new universe where characters parallel they’re former versions. Scorpion and Sub-Zero are now brothers, for example, and Liu Kang is the god while Raiden is of more humble, human origins.
When it comes to Cyrax and Sektor, NRS has decided to gender swap and make these two females. Not only that, but the transformation into cybernetic ninjas is now different as the fighters retain their humanity as they’re more “humans in robot suits” as opposed to the former “robots with humans inside” approach.
We’ve already gotten to see some Fatalities, high flying combos, and explosive specials, but we’re sitting forward in our chairs hungry to learn the finer Cyrax and Sektor details as we wait for today’s showcase.
Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot will all be available on September 24 along with the Khaos Reigns story expansion. Ghostface, the T-1000, and Conan the Barbarian will become available at later dates.
