Terry Bogard is now available to play in Street Fighter 6 alongside a new balance patch. This is the first time that a third-party guest character has been featured in a mainline Street Fighter entry.
Of course, Ryu and Terry have interacted with one another a few times throughout SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium, SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos, and Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001, which is something seemingly referenced in Terry’s story in Street Fighter 6.
After acquiring Terry’s fighting style in the World Tour mode, he’ll eventually task the player with seeking out Ryu. Curiously, Terry makes a request of the player to fight Ryu using his fighting style as a way of “passing along a courtesy call” to Ryu.
Remember that one of the prerequisites to meeting Terry in the first place is to become Ryu’s pupil. It would seem that this requirement was designed to specifically lead up to this moment.
After battling with Ryu, he’ll remark about your familiar movements before deducing that Terry had effectively sent him a greeting. Ryu then requests that you return the favor by fighting Terry using Ryu’s fighting style.
From this experience, Terry gets a hankering to interact with Ryu directly. Following this, both you and Terry will go up to meet Ryu.
After one more battle, some interesting dialogue between Ryu and Terry will then transpire. More specifically, it seems to be teasing at future crossovers.
“You and I walk down different paths,” says Terry. “And maybe the strength we’re both after takes a different form, but…”
“Yes,” interjects Ryu. “Though different, our paths will certainly cross again.”
It then shows Ryu and Terry shaking hands, which is pretty reminiscent of how Ryu and Cyclops shake hands in X-Men vs. Street Fighter.
“Until next time,” continues Ryu. “Whenever that may be.”
“You can bet on that,” responded Terry.
At this point, it’s been over 20 years since Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001. Though there were once plans for Capcom vs. SNK 3, these plans ultimately fell through due to SNK going bankrupt at the time.
With Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 Pro and Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001 both being part of the upcoming Capcom Fighting Collection 2, it feels like the possibility of Capcom vs. SNK 3 actually happening is now stronger than ever.
Additionally, SNK Producer Yasuyuki Oda stated during an interview that SNK and Capcom have a very good relationship as they’ve been talking about the collaboration that puts Terry and Mai in Street Fighter 6 for a couple of years now. Could there be more on the horizon?
This interaction between Ryu and Terry certainly seems to be suggesting that this won’t be the last time the Street Fighter and Fatal Fury casts interact with one another. Check it all out below:
