A violent clash between rival cult groups, Vikings and Black Axe, has erupted on the campus of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education in Rivers State, leaving students shaken.
One suspect is now in police custody after a Baretta pistol was allegedly recovered from him during the fracas.
The confrontation began when suspected Black Axe members invaded the university in search of their rivals, the Vikings, in retaliation for an attack on an executive member of the Black Axe confraternity last year.
The situation escalated into a violent battle, prompting security personnel to intervene and arrest one of the suspects.
The suspect was initially taken to the Rumulomeni Police Division at Iwofe before being transferred to the headquarters of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Rivers State Police Command.
According to SP Grace Iringe Koko, the police spokesperson, investigations are ongoing, and adequate security measures have been put in place to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
