CRS House of Assembly grants approval for Appointments of New Special Advisers

The Cross River State House of Assembly has granted approval to the state Governor, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade to appoint more special advisers into the State Executive Council.

The approval was given following a request contained in a letter dated 31st August, 2016 and signed by the state Governor Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade seeking approval from the speaker and honourable members of the Cross River State of Assembly to appoint 5 more special advisers into the state executive council.

According to the request ‘’nomination for appointment as special adviser’’, Governor Ayade maintained that the intention of appointment was to assist him in the performance of his functions as Governor.

Speaker, Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon John Gaul Lebo who read the Governor’s message on the floor of the House referred to section 196 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended and pointed out that the section was clear and supportive of the Governor’s right to appoint special Advisers to assist him in the performance of his functions and therefore, called on members to make their contributions.

The Honorable members were unanimous in their support for the Governor’s request to appoint additional 5 special advisers as members of the stat EXCO while Hon Okpechi, Friday Gabriel on his part called on the state Governor to slot at least one slot of the appointments to Obubra 1 state constituency which he maintained is the only constituency in the entire State without a commissioner or special Adviser from His Excellency’s previous appointments.
