The Cross River State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources Ntufam Okon Owuna has said that the State Government is poised to raise green millionaires through Agro-industrial revolution.
Ntufam Owuna stated this during a meeting with the Organised Farmers Groups at the Produce School Hall, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
According to the Commissioner, the policy thrust of the Governor Ben Ayade led admistration is aimed at developing the State through agriculture,adding that the first green millionaires will come from practical farmers,and advocated that agriculture should be rooted so as to upscale farmers from the crooked way of farming to the mechanized ways which will lead to large scale agricultural production
.
Ntufam Owuna said that, Cross River is the second Cocoa producing State and also amongst the five leading States in the cultivation of rice in Nigeria, stating that the Ministry has been given directives to create a database for registered farmers in the State.
He maintained the essence of the meeting was to interface with the groups and chat the way forward in the agricultural Sector.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Rev. Unimniake Ugbe said that, Governor Ben Ayade has done more in the agricultural Sector than any other sector adding that, there was need for both parties to work as a team to achieve tangleble results.
He said the meeting was strategic and result oriented and enjoined the groups to collaborate with the Ministry for effective service delivery.
