The Cross River State Commissioner for Environment, Mr Mfon Bassey, has embarked on the falling down of dead trees within Calabar Municipality to forestall cases of indiscriminate falling whenever it rains and to prevent destruction of cars parked under such trees and buildings.
Mr Bassey said that the move was to ensure that dead trees are pulled down, while new ones are planted to complement the clean and green status of the state.
He lamented that dead trees had created more havoc to people’s buildings, including vehicles parked under trees.
According to him, over 50 trees within Calabar metropolis had fallen this year, adding that there was need for the ministry to move in and pull down the dead ones and plant new ones.
