CALABAR – The Cross River State Government has issued a stern warning against unauthorized individuals acting on its behalf. In a public notice announcement released by Emmanuel Ogbeche, the Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, the government emphasized the need for caution in Cocoa transactions.
The notice specifically addressed former political appointees in the previous administration led by Ben Ayade, urging them to cease representing the state government as they have been relieved of their duties. Furthermore, it explicitly stated that Mr. Oscar Ofuka, a former Special Adviser on Cocoa, no longer had the authority to act on behalf of the state.
The statement read, "The Cross River State Government would like to reiterate that all former political appointees have been relieved of their positions and are therefore not authorized to act on behalf of the State Government.
"It is important to inform the general public that Mr. Oscar Ofuka, former Special Adviser on Cocoa, has been officially relieved of his duties and is strongly advised against presenting himself in that capacity.
"In addition, all stakeholders in the cocoa value chain are hereby notified that any agreements made regarding the acquisition of cocoa plots beyond December 31, 2023, are done at their own risk. They are advised to review any transactions involving Mr. Oscar Ofuka and seek reimbursement for any erroneous dealings.
"The State Government is currently reviewing activities within the cocoa value chain to ensure transparency, accountability, and the exploitation of the sector's potential as a viable revenue source.
"Hence, any attempts by individuals or groups to undermine the Government's directives in this regard will be met with severe consequences."
