CALABAR – A pro-southern group in Cross River State, known as the Cross River Southern  Consultative Forum has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to as a matter of urgency revoke the contract awarded to SERMATECH NIGERIA LIMITED for the construction of some portion of the Odukpani-Itu-Ikot Ekpene Federal Highway project, popularly called, Calabar-Itu Road project.
The group in a letter to the Honourable Minister of Works, Dr. David Umahi, says it’s  appeal stems from growing concerns over the competence and possible corruption surrounding the contract with SERMATECH.
The group also highlighted some troubling track record of SERMATECH, referencing past failures in projects such as the Goodluck Jonathan By-Pass and other federally intervened constructions in Cross River State. Questions the rationale behind entrusting the pivotal Calabar-Itu Road project to a company with such a checkered history and suggests a potential link between SERMATECH’s sustained participation and the vested interests of certain politicians. It therefore called fore a probe into the alleged incompetence and possible corruption surrounding the contract.
As the citizens face ongoing hardships due to perceived delays in the project, the Cross River Southern Group emphasizes the pressing need for transparency and accountability in the execution of infrastructure initiatives. The group’s persistent calls for the contract revocation underscore a commitment to safeguarding the interests of the community and ensuring the successful completion of the Calabar-Itu Road project through a more suitable and reliable avenue.
