CALABAR – In a powerful show of unity and appreciation, the youth of Cross River State has made a compelling request to Governor Sen. Prince Bassey Otu, urging him to appoint young individuals to his cabinet.
This call to action occurred during a town hall meeting organized to celebrate the election victory of Governor Sen. Prince Bassey Otu of the APC.
Held in Calabar, the gathering brought together youths from the South region who sought to acknowledge the remarkable contributions of Comrade Daniel Obo during the election campaign. Obo’s unwavering dedication to ensuring power returned to the South against all odds was highly recognized. The youth strongly believe that the current government should honour them with significant appointments as a token of appreciation for their support to the APC and its candidates during the election.
Expressing his gratitude, Comrade Daniel Obo, the dynamic Chairman and leader of Cross River State youths, conveyed his delight at the warm reception he received. He humbly acknowledged that power and platforms for service come from God, emphasizing that the will of God shall prevail at the appointed time.
Obo stated that the youth in Cross River State had decided to support any party that follows the zoning convention of the state and presents young individuals as candidates for governor or deputy governor positions.
Obo further expressed that Cross River State youths have no regrets for standing by Otu and the APC during the elections.
Speaking with our reporter after the event, several youths expressed their optimism regarding Comrade Obo’s competence and ability to assume the responsibilities of the Commissioner for Youths in Cross River State.
One youth remarked, “We have witnessed the unwavering dedication and commitment of several young people in this state to developmental causes. We have highly intelligent youths who can excel in any political office if given the opportunity. Therefore, we plead with Gov. Otu not to overlook the young people in his government.”
Another youth added, “Comrade Obo has proven himself as a unifying force among the youth of Cross River State. His leadership has brought us together, and we firmly believe that he will bring positive changes to the youth sector if given the opportunity. Besides Obo, we have many young professionals in various fields who can make our state proud once again.”
During a conversation with our correspondent, Deputy Chairman of NYCN, Engr. Jewel Henshaw, stressed the importance of including young people in the governor’s cabinet. Henshaw emphasized the need to appoint a young person as the commissioner for youths, someone who understands the language of young people and has demonstrated sufficient capacity to work with them.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the prestigious Strength and Friend of the South Award to Comrade Daniel Obo. This esteemed award recognized his outstanding role during the election campaign and his unwavering support for the South region.
As the voices of the youth grow stronger, their plea for the appointment and inclusion of young people in governance gains momentum. Only time will tell if their appeal will be met, but many youths stand ready and willing to take on this crucial role, guiding and empowering the young population of the state towards a brighter future.
