The executive chairman of Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State, Hon. Emmanuel Ishabor has led a joint security team to commence the counting of Fulani Herdsmen in the 10 wards that made up the local government.

THE PARADISE learned that farmers in the local government area can no longer go to their farms without the fear of being attacked by the Fulani herdsmen or their crops being eaten by the herders’ cattle.

On Wednesday, June 30, 2021, an excos meeting was held at the local government secretariat in Ogoja Urban and a conclusion was drawn.

The outcome of the meeting, THE PARADISE learned was to ensure every herder residing in the local government is being counted for security reasons.

Leading the joint security team out on Saturday, July 3, 2021, Hon. Ishabor said the purpose of the headcount is to achieve peace and security for all those residing in Ogoja.

He said: “The exercise is to get proper statistics, locations and number of Fulanis in order to address the incessant complaints from farmers and herders in the local government area. It is also to help in creating an avenue for peaceful coexistence between the Fulanis that have been residing in Ogoja before now and the host communities”.

The exercise begins today, Saturday, July 3, 2021.

“The Executive Chairman and all security agencies call on everyone to go about their normal daily activities as the exercise will in no way affect them”, a statement signed by Justin Ilefa, Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman said.
