C'River Govt Warns Against Tree Burning, Vows to Deal with Perpetrators

CALABAR – The Cross River State Government has expressed dissatisfaction over the recent incident of tree burning within the state capital, stating that a proper investigation will be carried out and perpetrators will be charged accordingly. 
The statement which was signed by the state’s Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Moses Osogi warned members of the public to desist from indiscriminate tree burning, maintaining that ornamental trees are grown for health and aesthetics purposes hence the need to preserve them by all means to curb deforestation and climate change.

The Commissioner who gave the warning following a recent report of tree burning at the State’s new secretariat Complex in the early hours of January 2, 2024, expressed  dissatisfaction over the incident
Reiterating the ban on the cutting of trees as well as tree burning, The Environment Commissioner stated that burning of trees for the use of charcoal or fuel woods is highly prohibited and assured that thorough investigations would be carried out on the tree burning incident and Perpetrators charged accordingly. 
He called on residents to support the efforts of the present administration led by His Excellency, Sen. Prince Bassey Otu in restoring and maintaining the State’s clean, green, and serene nature.
