C’River Govt intensifies response to cholera outbreak, activates Active Case Search across 18 LGAs

Following the unprecedented and dreadful deaths toll that hit Abi Local Government Area about a fortnight ago, the Cross River State Government is acting proactively in different Communities to salvage suspected and rising cases of Cholera in the state.

With strong directives from the Director General of the Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Janet Ekpenyong, the  Local Government Area Health Authorities team in the state, especially the disease surveillance and notification officers and other health workers have begun active case search and swift response to prevent a possible outbreak, as Government works towards tackling the main cause of the Outbreak.

Speaking earlier, the state’s Primary Healthcare Director and Commissioner Designate, Dr Janet Ekpenyong urged Cross Riverians especially those in the rural Communities to maintain good hygiene protocols especially during this season.

Represented by the Director of Local Government Health Authority, Yala Local Government Area, Mrs Augustina Okem in all of the sensitization outing urged them to consciously maintain set down procedures of regular hand wash, drinking clean and safe water , regular and proper latrine protocols and eating well cooked and fresh meals.

Mrs Okem, alongside other health experts Including world health organization went further to inspect various sources of drinking and domestic water supply across the LGA with plans to fumigate and clean the water bodies and make them safe for consumption.

The team also distributed consumables and emergency health commodities to the people while those suspected to have cholera are being managed in various health facilities within the Local Government Area.

The Director General informed the people that every community without alternative source of water,  will be provided with that. She also thanked the member representing Yala 2 State constituency, Hon Mrs Cynthia Nkasi for her support in providing drugs, infusions, consumables and other commodities to tackle the cholera Outbreak in Yala.
