No less than 6 mobile courts have been set up across the three senatorial districts of Cross River State to prosecute residents who flout the environmental sanitation exercise ordered by government of the state.
In an interview with journalist during the environmental sanitation exercise on Saturday in Calabar, the Commissioner for Environment Hon. Moses Osogi said a total of 6 mobile courts have been set up across the state to prosecute defaulters. The mobile courts, according to Osogi, cuts across the urban areas which includes: Calabar South, Calabar Municipal, Ikom, Ogoja, Ugep and Obudu local government areas.
The Commissioner disclosed that more courts would come up in subsequent exercise while pleading with residents to adhere to the monthly exercise to avoid embarrassment from taskforce members. He also frowned at the lackadaisical attitude of some residents towards the sanitation exercise, where some individuals were seen loitering the streets while some youths were engaged in street football during the period of sanitation.
Osogi who expressed satisfaction at the high level of compliance from residents, informed that plans are in the pipeline to reward the cleanest street after each exercise. Adding that the indices that will be used in selecting the cleanest street will be be announced soonest.
Speaking with some residents along Mayne Avenue they expressed gratitude to Sen. Prince Bassey Otu, Governor of Cross whom they referred to as "Sweet Prince" for returning the monthly sanitation exercise. According to one Ekpenyong Okon, who spoke with our Correspondent, the exercise will return the state to it's clean and green state is has always been known for.
The exercise which was monitored by CalabarParrot saw major markets and streets cleaned up by residents and traders, except for some few persons who were recalcitrant leading to their arrest by members of the taskforce and presented before the mobile courts.
