In a dedicated effort to safeguard the environment, the Cross River State Ministry of Environment is actively pursuing strategies to reduce carbon emissions, as highlighted in a recent presentation at the National Climate Action Stakeholder Workshop on Decarbonization and Biodiversity for the Niger Delta.
Commissioner for Environment Hon. Moses Osogi, represented by Director of Climate Change and Waste Mr. Collins Njar, emphasized the importance of carbon reduction for achieving neutrality. The presentation outlined key avenues, including increasing the social cost of carbon, transitioning to carbon-free renewable energy, and effective solid waste management.
Osogi acknowledged challenges such as poverty, illiteracy, deforestation, and technological gaps hindering carbon neutrality in Cross River State. He urged collective efforts from Cross Riverians to collaborate with the state government in environmental protection.
Commissioner of Special Duties Mr. Oden Ewa encouraged active engagement from Cross Riverians in addressing climate change. He called for alignment with global and national initiatives, emphasizing the state’s potential as a hub for renewable energy activities.

CEO of Stratus Consult Limited, Prince Xavier Eyamba, stressed the need for Nigeria to develop a climate action plan and appoint climate desk officers in all environment ministries. The workshop aimed to reposition Cross River State for green energy investment and provide technical expertise for integrating green infrastructure projects into the state budget.
The two-day event at the Calabar International Conference Centre featured Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy Eka Williams, permanent secretaries, directors, heads of departments, and principal staff of various agencies.
