C’River Assembly Urges New LG Chairmen, Councillors to Work in Harmony

The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams has urged the 18 Local Government Chairmen in the state to work closely with their legislative arms to come up with positive ideas to transform their areas.

The Speaker gave the advice when the leadership of the House met with the newly sworn-in LG Chairmen at the Assembly on Wednesday in Calabar.

He said sustain collaboration between the two arms will fast track development at the grassroots.

The Speaker who gave guidelines to the new Chairmen on how to inaugurate their respective legislative arms at the council level also warned that the House will not fail to sanction any council chairman found wanting in the discharge of their duties.

Other Honourable Members who spoke charged the Chairmen to commit themselves to the service of the people and maintain financial transparency and accountability and all times as the House Committee on Local Government affairs will make oversight function a priority to check any grey areas.

Members also urge the council chairmen to ensure adequate peace and security is maintained in their areas.
