The Government of Cross River State has announced Tuesday, 27th of July 2021 as the date for the 2021 edition of the Green Carnival, with the approved theme “GO GREEN”.
The event which will be flagged off by Governor Ben Ayade at the Botanical Garden, Calabar, the State capital, is in furtherance to the State Government’s resolve in conserving the ecosystem, preserving and protecting biodiversity and seeking out sustainable strategies in handling climate change challenges, global warming and environmental degradation through tree planting.
The theme, “GO GREEN”, consciously emphasises the need to create ecological balance by adopting environmental saving principles to prevent environmental collapse such as recycling, re-using and re-reusing; conserving resources and energy; reducing pollution, consumption and waste; avoid illegal logging activities; planting trees and pollinator-friendly plants; reducing carbon footprints, engaging in ecotourism, et cetera.
From time immemorial, Cross River State has remained environmentally friendly and ecologically responsible and is especially visible under the current Ayade-led administration as re-vegetation occupies the front burner of sustainable environmental development.
The 2021 edition of the Green Carnival, which will have over 40 government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, Extra-Ministerial Departments and Parastatals participate, is being put together by the Cross River State Ministries of Climate Change, Environment, Culture and Tourism Development and the Department of Afforestation and Biodiversity.
