Over recent months there’s been rumours of Cristiano Ronaldo returning to Manchester United for a third stint at Old Trafford.
However, with Ronaldo’s bust up with Erik ten Hag causing his move away from the club, a return under the Dutchman looked extremely unlikely.
The breakdown in the pair relationship came from ten Hag wanting the Ballon d’Or winner to be more mobile on the pitch, especially when operating a high attacking press, a demand of most modern attackers.
Recently former United coach Steve Bruce supported ten Hag, saying that the way the manager handled the situation couldn’t be faulted. He also went on to comment: “He took on Ronaldo, and quite rightly. Other managers have tried to adapt. Erik didn’t feel it was necessary to do that.”
Ultimately with ten Hag not adapting to Ronaldo’s play style and Ronaldo not adapting to ten Hag’s the pair couldn’t work together.

However, with the Dutchman now gone from United and Ronaldo’s former Portugal teammate Ruben Amorim coming in, a move could be on the cards.
Cristiano Ronaldo could become a part of Ruben Amorim’s coaching team
According to former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham, Cristiano Ronaldo could return to Old Trafford to support Ruben Amorim.
Speaking to Flashscore, the former Red Devil said: “Cristiano Ronaldo would be very welcome back at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim, but he is onto bigger and better things.
He continued: “I think that Ronaldo will follow in the path of David Beckham in doing things away from coaching, higher profile things around the world.
“I’m sure he’d be very, very welcome in any capacity coming back to the club, but I doubt that he’ll be a coach.”
However, despite his contract running out next summer, it doesn’t look like he’ll be happy to hang up his boots, having scored ten goals with three assists in 14 games this season.
