Cristiano Ronaldo breaks silence after Rasmus Hojlund’s celebration

During their 1-0 win over Portugal on Thursday, Denmark’s Rasmus Holjund followed his 78th-minute goal with Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic ‘siu’ celebration.

The Danish striker scored the only goal of the game after only entering the pitch 9 minutes before, and seemingly mocked the visiting side by using Ronaldo’s famed celebration against him.

The dramatic game at Parken Stadium was the two nations’ first leg encounter in their UEFA Nations League quarter-final clash, with the second set to be played tomorrow at Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon, Portgual.

The two nations competed relentlessly to put a score over on the other, with the Danes putting in 23 attempts at goal versus Portugal’s 8.

And so when the final and only goal came of Holjund’s boot, it meant that much more to the men beside and the fans watching him.

However, Ronaldo has since responded to Holjund’s choice of celebration, saying “Højlund doing my celebration is not a problem. I know it wasn’t out of disrespect”.

The Portuguese striker went on to point out that Holjund was not the first to copy his signature celebration, and he likely won’t be the last, and so has taken no offence to the gesture.

Shortly after the game had finished, Holjund told the Danish news organisation DR, “I fell in love with football because of Cristiano”, further showing no evidence of bad blood between himself and the footballing legend.

Besides, any lingering beef over Holjund’s choice of celebration can be settled in Lisbon tomorrow.
