The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams says the House remains committed to the overall well being of workers across the State.
Rt. Hon.Williams said the safety of Cross River workers is of paramount importance to the Assembly and can not be compromised.
The Speaker who spoke when members of the Cross River State Safety Commission paid him a courtesy visitl in his office in Calabar.
In an address at the event, the Chairman of the Cross River State Safety Commission, Prince Ekanem Ekpo, who led the members of the Commission on the visit, solicited the Speaker’s support towards the signing of the Law which established the Commission.
Prince Ekpo emphasized that when empowered, the Commission has the capacity to be a major revenue earner for the State Government.
Similarly, the Speaker has commended the State Governor, Senator Ben Ayade for his open mindedness which according to him,showed glowingly in the appointment of persons from other Political Parties outside the ruling Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) to serve in his Government.
Rt Hon Williams who stated this when he received the Special Adviser to the Governor on Inter Party Affairs and members of his team during a courtesy call, expressed joy at the visit while reiterating the need for every Cross Riverian to work towards upliftment of the people of the State.
Earlier, the Special Adviser who led the delegation on the visit congratulated the Speaker for achieving the passage and assenting to the Assembly Service Commission Bill, CRUTECH amendment bill and other bills, the Assembly’s websites, speedy confirmation of nominees for political appointments across the State, amongst others.
In a related development, the Speaker has assured of partnership in the revamping of the Cultural Centre Complex to enable it perform maximally.
Rt. Hon Williams gave the assurances when he received the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Cultural Centre, Hon. Victor Ita and members of his Management team in his office during a courtesy visit.
The Speaker recalled the past glorious days of the Cultural Centre Complex, when shows like the “Sunday- Sunday show were held in the Centre and attracted crowds of people while also lamentng that the edifice was at present grossly under utilized.
He challenged the new management of the Centre to work towards the restoration of the edifice to his former glory and promised the House of Assembly’s backing for the restoration of the Centre.
Speaking earlier, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Cultural Centre, Hon. Victor Ita, stated that he and his team were in the Assembly to solicit the Speaker’s assistance, support and partnerships to enable them achieve the Governor’s vision for the Cultural Centre.
In a vote of thanks, the Cultural Centre’s Head of Administration, Mrs Sylvia Osadebe, expressed appreciation to the Speaker for granting them audience and expressed the management’s desire to work towards the improvement of the Centre.
