Covid-19: Flour Mills supports C’River with 6,000 packs of Semovita

Flour Mills Nigeria PLC, a food, agro-allied company, has donated 6,000 packs of Golden Penny Semovita to the Cross River State Government as part of her support to the fight against the deadly corona virus pandemic in the State.

Receiving the items, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation and Chairman, Publicity and Advertisement Sub-committee of the State Covid-19 Taskforce, Comrade Asu Okang, thanked Flour Mills Nigeria PLC for the huge support to the State at “this difficult period of global health crisis.”

Comrade Okang, who described the gesture as “timely,” said it will further give impetus to the Governor Ben Ayade-led administration’s commitment towards the containment of corona virus in Cross River, as well as its quest to retaining the State’s  Covid-19 free status.

Reiterating the Governor Ben Ayade-led administration’s priority for the health, safety and wellbeing of the citizenry, the State COVID 19 Publicity and Advertisement Sub-committee Chairman stated that the Governor’s presentation of 100 vehicles, 500 million naira bounty to the Covid-19 Taskforce, the ‘no mask, no movement’ order, as well as other precautionary measures, highlight government’s robust fight against the deadly corona virus in Cross River State.

He advised Cross Riverians and residents of the State to adhere strictly to the preventives measures and directives put in place by the State Government, while maintaining personal hygiene and social distancing.

Another prominent stakeholder, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Ntufam Okon Owuna, also expressed gratitude to Flour Mills Nigeria PLC for the “sumptuous donation” of two lorry-loads of Semovita to curb the food security problem that was occasioned the lockdown in Cross River State.

The Agriculture and Natural Resources Commissioner enjoined all well-meaning Nigerians, Farmers, Corporate Bodies and Non Governmental Organizations to donate to the State in this moment of strive.

In his remarks, the General Manager, Flour Mills Nigeria PLC, Mr. Sunic Nambiar, thanked the State Government for receiving the company’s “modest donation,” as its own support to the fight against COVID 19, while commending Governor Ayade’s  proactive disposition and headlong approach in the containment of Covid-19 in Cross River State.

Mr. Nambiar pledged his company’s commitment towards partnering, supporting the government and masses in the provision of nutritious foods and the over all growth and development of the State.

Also speaking, Flour Mills Nigeria PLC’s Human Resource Business Partner, Mr. Matthew Anuga, noted that the the Company’s gesture of 6,000 packs of Semovita (each pack containing two mini packs of 2.5kg) was to cushion the impact and toll of Covid-19 on the people of the State, nay Nigeria.

Mr. Anuga said Flour Mills Nigeria PLC, as one of the largest food/agro-allied groups, which has shared deep connection with Nigeria for 60 years, understands her role in the food value chain; to which end, the company is committed to feeding the nation with highly enriched diets/foods.

He commended the State Governor for the steps taken in the fight against the deadly corona virus in Cross River State and encouraged Nigerians to continue to adhere strictly to the precautionary measures against Covid-19.

Taking inventory of the items, the Chairman, Cross River State Food Bank, Mrs. Mercy Akpama, assured Flour Mills Nigeria PLC of judicious use of gifts, as plans are underway for a statewide distribution of foods to all nooks and crannies of the State.

The donation by Flour Mills Nigeria PLC is one in a series of many support from Corporate Organizations through the intervention of the Chairman, Publicity and Advertisement Sub-committee, Comrade Asu Okang, to garner support for the State Government’s fight against the deadly corona virus in Cross River State.
