A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday dismissed a suit by Chief Ambrose Albert Owuru, which asked it to remove Muhammadu Buhari as president of Nigeria.
Chief Owuru was the presidential candidate of Hope Democratic Party (HDP) in the 2019 general election.
He asked the court for an order declaring the presidential seat vacant and for him to be sworn in as the authentic winner of that election.
Justice Inyang Ekwo who dismissed the suit, described it as baseless, frivolous, irritating and vexatious in its entirety.
Justice Ekwo cited three main reasons for throwing out the lawsuit which include that: the lawsuit was a flagrant abuse of the legal system, was time-barred, and insulted the authority of the Nigerian Supreme Court.

Buhari and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had been the subject of legal action brought by Owuru.
He had requested the court, among other things, to rule on the legitimacy or otherwise of INEC’s 2019 decision to move the poll from February 16 to March 23.
Owuru further asserted that INEC violated the constitution in unconstitutional and unlawful methods, shifting the presidential election, and that Buhari’s proclamation of victory as a result of this illegal act should be deemed void and without force.
He based his argument on the fact that the Supreme Court had not rendered a decision on the petition he filed against Buhari as required by law.
