Court orders the reinstatement of sacked C/River Assembly member

A Federal High Court in Abuja has on Wednesday orders the reinstatement of Cross River State House of Assembly Member by restraining the Speaker of the House, Hon. John Gaul Lebo, from declaring the Seat of Hon. Elucate Okora Ekom, vacant after defecting to the All Progressives congress (APC).

Dr. Elucate Ekom, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), defected to the APC last July, he represents Obubra II State Constituency at the State House.

Hon. Lebo had before now declared Ekom’s seat vacant and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a bye-election in 180 days to fill the position, but the court presided over by Justice Nnamdi Dimgba on August 9, ordered both parties to maintain the status quo that exist as at August 9.

Justice Dimgba adjourned the sitting to September 18 for further hearing. Meanwhile, Okora on his part has accused the House, saying they don’t know how to make laws.
