Court Grants Portable N1m Bail After Arrest For Defamation

Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has been granted N1m bail after his arrest by the Kwara State Police Command.

The arrest followed a petition filed by Fuji singer Okunola Saheed, also known as Osupa, who accused Portable of several offences, including criminal defamation, threats to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and the use of abusive language.

Speaking after the court proceedings on Monday, April 14, Portable’s legal counsel, Isaac Adebayo, confirmed that his client had been granted bail.

“I made an oral application and it was granted,” Adebayo stated.

He explained that efforts had been made to resolve the matter amicably at the police station.

“Saheed alleged defamation and intimidation. Portable apologised, and even the Commissioner of Police intervened, but the complainant refused to settle,” he said.

Adebayo maintained that the bail conditions were strict but expressed confidence they would be met.

“The court asked for the Kwara State Chairman of PMAN (Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria) as one surety, another surety with a landed property and N1m like sum,” he added.
