Cotton Street Gallery to host second annual quilt show, lecture series

The Cotton Street Gallery, located at 104 North Cotton Street in Andalusia, will host its second annual quilt show and competition beginning Saturday, Feb. 1.
Quilts from more than 25 southern quilters will be on display through March 31. The Kiwanis Club of Andalusia and the Alabama Humanities Alliance are among the show’s sponsors.
Competition judge Sandy Gard, member of the National Association of Certified Quilt Judges (NACQJ), will give a lecture on “Quilts -The Lost Art That Was Really Never Lost” on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. in the Andalusia Public Library’s Dixon Room.
On March 27, the gallery will host the Gees Bend quilters at the Andalusia Train Depot. An interactive quilting demonstration from 3 to 6 p.m. will be followed by a lecture on the history of the Gees Bend quilters, from 6 to 7 p.m., and a reception. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children. Due to limited seating, it is recommended that tickets be purchased in advance at the gallery; a limited number will be available at the door. The Cotton Street Gallery, which celebrates Southern textile art and artists, is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The Gallery offers textile-related classes and demonstrations for adults and children throughout the year. Proceeds from the gallery benefit AIR Andalusia.
