Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr are in talks to fight and continue their fathers rivalry 30 years on

Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr are in talks to fight and continue their fathers rivalry 30 years on

When you hear Benn vs Eubank, your mind instantly flashes back to the epic duo of fights between Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr in the early 1990’s.

This time, however, it is their sons who look like they will be meeting in the ring, as talkSPORT understands that talks are underway for a Conor Benn vs Chris Eubank Jr clash.

Speculation began after Benn posted a photo to his Twitter alongside the caption, “For The Legacy.”

This is not the first time there has been rumours about a fight between Benn and Eubank Jr, as the pair even discussed it themselves when they met backstage at the Sport Industry Awards earlier this year.

“He came over to me, shook my hand,” Eubank Jr told iFL TV. “He asked me about the Canelo fight, it was small talk.

“He was talking to someone else for a second and I was thinking about all the stuff that’s been said over the past couple of months and I started laughing.

“He said, ‘What are you smirking about?’ I said, ‘Listen, me and you can make a lot of money in the future.’

“He said on the fight that he comes in 20lbs heavier than what he weighs in at. He was basically trying to say that he could physically fight, the weight difference wouldn’t be an issue.”

Eubank Jr, 32, is the older and more experienced fighter, with 34 professional bouts to his name, winning 32 (23 KOs) and losing two.

In his last outing in February of this year, Eubank Jr looked impressive against Liam Williams, as he knocked him down four times on his way to an unanimous decision victory.

As for Benn, 25, he is unbeaten with 21 fights, 21 wins and 14 KOs and has been in terrific form of late knocking out his last two opponents in spectacular fashion.

While this would undoubtedly be a lucrative fight, it is also a strange option for both men given that they are on the brink of world title shots in their respective weight classes.

Benn is ranked in the top five with all four governing bodies at welterweight, while Eubank is ranked in the top three with three of the governing bodies at middleweight, including being number one contender with the WBA, but a loss could put both men’s positions in jeopardy.
