Ultimate Fighting Arena 2024 proved to be a spectacular event for Street Fighter 6 fans over this past weekend. Who would’ve guessed that Kusanagi would end up winning the whole thing with Ryu? Needless to say, Kusanagi now has us all reconsidering Ryu’s position on the tier list.
However, this wasn’t the only highlight of the event. One of the players in attendance, GameIn99, at one point had to face off against someone he claims to be his idol, BST|Daigo Umehara.
Indeed, GameIn99, playing Luke, had quite the match up against Daigo who was using Akuma. This was during the winners finals of their pool bracket.
Despite how nerve wracking this sounds like, GameIn99 was the one to initiate the offense in this match up. While the first round felt fairly evenly matched at first, GameIn99 was able to close it out with a level 2 super art without dropping a combo.
With the second round of the match, GameIn99 was able to secure a more dominant victory. GameIn99 even began adapting to some of the situations that Daigo repeated going from round 1 to round 2.
During the second match, Daigo began incorporating Akuma’s command grab special into his game plan. This turned out to be fairly effective as Daigo was able to take the second round of the second match.
Ultimately, however, GameIn99 was able to come out on top with a 2-0 victory over Daigo. Though he kept calm throughout the entire match, it’s easy to see his excitement on the player cam when he was able to pull this off.
In a later clip, GameIn99 reveals that, since he was eight years old, he’s been a huge fan of Daigo. Needless to say, GameIn99 was feeling pumped about continuing his run the next day.
Within this scene, it can be observed that GameIn99 had tears in his eyes. This really showcases just how much this moment meant to him.
In the end, both GameIn99 and Daigo tied for 25th place at Ultimate Fighting Arena 2024. This was truly a tournament to remember.
