Early this morning commuters were stranded at the Calabar terminal of Ayade Motors as they arrived the park for transactions to board the transport company for their various journeys to sundry parts of the state.
The cause for their been stranded stemmed from the hike of transportation fare by Ayade Motors. For instance, the transportation fare charged for Calabar to Ikom was N1,000, but by this morning, there was a 50% increase to N1,500.00. Since this was unprecedented, they had to be stranded accordingly.
If we recall, early this year Ayade Motors initiated a flat rate charge of N1,000 for transportation fares from Calabar to any part of the state. This incited a brouhaha as critics perceived that the move was a business ploy to displace other transportation companies via comparative advantage. This 50% increment proves their suspicion.
We are calling on Governor Ben Ayade to prevail on the situation in view of forestalling it. The girl in blue in the picture above was crying that she had only N1,000.
