The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a commercial sex worker, Joy Kelvin, for allegedly stabbing a 48-year-old client, identified simply as Okafor, to death.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident on Monday, disclosed that the stabbing took place at around 5:32 am at Jakande Housing Estate, located in the Lekki area of Lagos State.
According to Hundeyin, the case was reported to the llasan Police Division by a close friend of the deceased.
Hundenyin said, “A complainant reported that he got a call from one of his friends informing him that Okafor had been stabbed in his house by Joy Kelvin, a prostitute he had invited to spend the night.”
He stated that the victim was immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Marina, where medical staff pronounced him dead.
Hundeyin also noted that upon receiving the report, detectives from the division swiftly arrived at the scene and apprehended Kelvin.
He confirmed that the deceased’s body had been evacuated and deposited at the General Hospital Mortuary in Yaba for preservation and autopsy.
“He stated further that the victim was rushed to the General Hospital, Marina, where he was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty,” he said.
“On the receipt of the report, the scene was promptly visited by detectives of the division, and the suspect was apprehended.
“The corpse has been evacuated and deposited at General Hospital Mortuary, Yaba for preservation and autopsy,” he added
SP Hundeyin, however, stated that investigation to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing, and efforts are underway to notify Okafor’s family.
