The Capital Market Academics of Nigeria (CMAN) on Tuesday conferred its highest membership status of the Association- Fellow of the Capital Market Academics (FCMA) on Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The President of CMAN, Prof Uche Uwaleke, who led other Exco members conferred the award on the Vice President in a brief ceremony held at the State House.
Uwaleke told the Vice President that CMAN started in 2020 as an Association of Professors and Senior Academics in Nigerian Universities with interest in financial markets’ research drawn from Finance, Economics, Banking, Accounting, Business Admin and Law departments.
According to him, members are spread in universities across Nigeria coordinated by zonal heads.
Uwaleke congratulated the Vice President for receiving the award which is the highest honour that the Association can bestow on an individual
He said, “Today, the Association welcomes captains of industry in order to strengthen the bond between the Academia and Industry which positions her to be the Nation’s foremost Think Tank in relation to finance and economy”.
“We are here to confer on your Excellency Sen Kashim Shettima the highest membership status of the Association- Fellow of the Capital Market Academics (FCMA)”
“On behalf of all Capital Market Academics in Nigeria, I congratulate you on this award and look forward to your inaugural lecture, which every Fellow of our Society is expected to deliver.”
In his response, the VP expressed his gratitude to all Capital Market Academics in Nigeria for the honour done to him and promised to support CMAN activities.
The VP’s CMAN Fellowship conferment was witnessed by his Chief of Staff, and other Principal Officers at the State House.
The award of fellowship to Shettima is coming a few weeks after the Association also bestowed the same status on the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun.
CMAN aims to bring together Senior Academic Staff of Universities in Nigeria engaged in research and the teaching of financial market related courses
Uwaleke had during his inaugural speech as the first President of the Association described the birth of CMAN as a new dawn for financial market education in Nigeria saying that key stakeholders such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, the CBN, NDIC and the Nigerian Exchange will in the near future leverage the Association’s reach and membership strength in promoting financial market literacy in Nigeria.
He equally added that the Association will serve as a bridge between the Academia and the Industry by working closely with academically-minded industry leaders in conducting joint research with practical relevance.
“So, membership is inter-disciplinary cutting across teaching in various programmes in Universities in Nigeria including Banking and Finance, Economics, Accounting, Management and Law,” Uwaleke had said.
