Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United to play in the Champions League.

It’s a competition he loves dearly having broken a number of records in it and clearly he would like to add to them.

Those include the joint-most titles on five, only joined by former teammates Dani Carvajal, Karim Benzema and Luka Modric after they beat Liverpool in the final in May.

His 140 Champions League goals is an astonishing record, and rival Lionel Messi is 20 behind but will be catching up with Ronaldo’s continued absence.

The 37-year-old has not won the competition since the 2017/18 season and failed to get past the quarter-finals with Juventus.

He was drafted in by the Italian club to finally end their Champions League heartbreak, losing in the 2015 and 2017 finals.

Ronaldo himself handed Juve that defeat in 2017, scoring twice in the final at the Millennium Stadium.

He experienced similar heartbreak while in Turin, suffering a quarter-final exit and two Round of 16 losses.

The 2020/21 loss to Porto was particularly devastating and Netflix cameras caught just how much it means to Ronaldo.

The aftermath highlighted Ronaldo’s anger and sadness as the clip showed him in tears at full time in the dressing room.

That summer he moved back to Manchester United, who had qualified for the Champions League, and helped them finish top of their group.

They faced Villarreal, Atalanta and Young Boys and scored a number of vital goals.

They ended up losing to Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16 and then finished sixth in the Premier League to ensure they would not return next season.
