Classic Controls are massively outperforming Modern Controls in Street Fighter 6's Master League

Leading up to Street Fighter 6’s release, it was revealed that both Classic Controls and the simplified Modern Controls would both be tournament legal. Numerous pro players have theorized that Modern Controls could be superior due to the ability to unleash a super requiring what would essentially just be the timing and execution of a single button press.

Recently, Capcom updated their Buckler’s Boot Camp website, which hosts battle stats for Street Fighter 6’s ranked mode. With this update, the stats page has now separated Modern Controls and Classic Controls users for each character.

Previously, there were 400 match ups listed on the site. Since characters have now been divided by their Modern Controls and Classic Controls users, there are now 1,600 match ups to consider.

Looking into the Master ranking section, it’s clear that Classic Controls characters are hugely outperforming their Modern Controls counterparts. Dhalsim, JP, Rashid, Luke, E. Honda, and Lily are currently have the highest win rates in Master rank, but only with regards to the Classic Controls users.

Modern Controls Chun-Li ended up being the seventh most successful combatant on this stats page with a win rate of 50.05%. This is the only time in which a Modern Controls character is outperforming that same character’s win rate when played by a Classic Controls user.

However, Modern Controls Chun-Li has been reported to have a 46.61% win rate against Classic Controls Chun-Li. Still, Modern Chun-Li has better win rates against characters like Classic Rashid, Classic Luke, Classic Lily, Classic Dee Jay, and a few others, resulting in Modern Chun-Li barely getting the edge over Classic Chun-Li by about 0.35%.

Lily ended up being the second most successful representative of the Modern Controls players. Following Modern Lily’s placement as the 15th most successful combatant in Master League, there’s quite a gap until the next Modern Controls character.

Of the Classic Controls characters, Zangief and Ryu are the worst performing, but even they’re doing better than their Modern Controls counterparts. Check it all out below:
