City of the Wolves new hands on gameplay footage and impressions from Maximilian

While at Summer Game Fest this year, the mighty Maximilian was able to get a few hours worth of hands on time with SNK’s upcoming fighter Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.

The prominent streamer had a ton of reactions and interesting takeaways as he became increasingly familiarized with the next Fatal Fury, and shares all of his findings with us as he details the ins and outs of the game’s mechanics in his one of his latest videos.

With SNK and Capcom already doing a bit of collaborating it should come as little surprise to hear that City of the Wolves has a noticeable amount of overlap with the red-hot Street Fighter 6 in the gameplay department.

Max notes how he couldn’t help but recall his initial impressions from Street Fighter 6 about a year ago as he played City, explaining how both titles have a similar feel, flow, and learning curve thanks to the way many of the mechanics are implemented.

City of the Wolves feels a little slow at first, but once players begin to wrap their heads around the nuanced mechanics (many of which are on the defensive side) the entire game opens up for an incredibly enticing and fun experience. That’s a good thing, too, because while some of the mechanics are easy enough to use, others require very strict timings and foresight to use effectively.

Like Street Fighter 6, meter management appears to be a pillar City as players must constantly monitor and manipulate both their and their foes’ various gauges to stand a chance at winning. Also like SF6’s Drive Impact, City has advancing armored moves (thanks to the S.P.G. mechanic) that can be performed both on the ground or in the air.

Max covers all of this and plenty more in the full video, including reactions and thoughts on the newer characters (Marco is a damage monster, apparently) and some notable changes that’ve been made since the first time he was able to play the developing game a few months back.
