Civil Society Legislative and Advocacy Center (CISLAC), an organization actively promoting civil-society monitoring for legislative accountability alongside their Partners, Tax Justice and Governance Platform (TJGP) – whose core duty includes regulations of taxes and levies in Nigeria – with membership spread across 20 States in Nigeria embarked on a courtesy visit to the House Member representing Calabar Municipality in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Stanley Nsemo.
While speaking during the event, Mr Chinedu poured encomiums on Hon. Nsemo for his brave strides in just a few months in office; a period in which he raised a motion for the reduction of multiple taxation in the State.
A Move, Mr. Chinedu hinted that has played a significant role in the drastic reduction in daily Tolls from N1700 to N300 in the Ika Ika Oqua Market as well as other markets in Calabar. He further stressed that Hon. Nsemo should “be resilient; as those against the reduction of taxes will do everything in their power to thwart the efforts to end over-taxation.
“We have observed that rascality has been relevantly reduced; though the unscrupulous elements will not relax in their efforts to continuously display their greed on tax collection.”
