Chocolate Festival sweetens Paradise next weekend – Paradise Post

PARADISE — Just like cocoa, sugar and milk form a delectable combination, chocolate and the Paradise ridge come together annually to sweeten the lives of children.

The Paradise Chocolate Festival returns Saturday, May 11, with proceeds benefitting local youth organizations. Since 2006, the fundraiser has yielded $400,000.

“The Paradise Chocolate Fest celebration is filled with fun for all ages where community spirit shines bright,” Executive Director Debbie LaPlant Moseley said. “Join us for a chocolate-filled adventure that’s sure to delight your taste buds and warm your heart!”

The festival runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Terry Ashe Recreation Area on Skyway. From noon to 4 p.m., an event within the event — Chocolate, Wine, Brew and Spirits! — also takes place at the park for visitors 21 and over.

Activities include:

• Chocolate Candy Land with treats to taste.

• Chocolate Fest Kidz-Zone featuring giant inflatables, carnival games, competitions and crafts.

• Chocolate Chase, a 5K run/walk.

• Live music on two stages, highlighted by Big Mo & the Full Moon Band, Hot Flash, Ukuladies, Soul Posse and the Whiskey River Band.

• Art in the Park with exhibits and demonstrations.

• Contests for pie eating, cookie stacking and sundae eating.

• Author readings and book signings.

• Awards ceremony for the fest’s Young Authors Writing Contest.

• Green Scene Outdoor Classroom with interactive learning stations.

• Crowning the festival’s king and/or queen from the royal court — Zack Connell, Elizabeth Heaton, Heidi Lange, Jeni Moore, Amy Sperske and Lacey Witten.
