This week’s high school athletic action will be highlighted by end-of-the-week matchups between Pleasant Valley and Chico High in boys and girls basketball.
Prep girls basketball
The action starts early as Pleasant Valley (13-6) will be spending Monday in Stockton to take on Cornerstone Christian; tip-off of that game is at 5:30. The Vikings have won three straight Eastern Athletic League games to open the new year.
On Tuesday, the Vikings return to league action and play host to the Shasta Wolves. Shasta is 11-6 coming off a 16-point loss to Foothill on Friday. The Vikings have lost to Shasta just three times since 2003 and have won the last eight consecutive meetings.
The Panthers (11-7, 2-0 in EAL) will get to play Foothill (12-5, 2-1 in EAL) in Redding on Tuesday night. Chico has won four of the last five meetings between the two schools.
Red Bluff will play at Enterprise in the third EAL game of the night, as both squads enter into that game winless in league action. The Spartans are 6-10 on the year, while Enterprise is 9-10.
In other Tuesday night action, Core Butte is at Maxwell, Biggs at Los Molinos, Hamilton at Williams, East Nicolaus at Paradise, Willows at Live Oak, Durham at Winters, Orland at Las Plumas, and Oroville at Gridley.
On Wednesday night, Paradise Adventist Academy travels to play at Westwood.
Then, on Thursday night, Paradise Adventist is home to take on Princeton. Also on Thursday night, Oroville will host Orland.
On Friday night, Pleasant Valley travels across town to check on Chico High to punctuate the week. It’ll be the 57th meeting between the two schools since 2004. The Panthers have lost four of the last five to the Vikings, including three straight.
Also, on Friday night, Foothill is at Red Bluff, Paradise at Willows, Biggs at Maxwell, Los Molinos at Hamilton, Core Butte at Williams, Colusa at Durham, and Las Plumas at Corning.
Prep boys basketball
On Tuesday night, Pleasant Valley (13-6) will be on the road to play Shasta (11-9). Vikings and Wolves are a part of a four-way tie atop the EAL at 2-1.
Chico (12-7) is also a part of that four-way tie and will be at home on Tuesday against Foothill (11-7, 1-2 in EAL). The fourth team in that four-way tie is Enterprise, which will be playing at Red Bluff (6-12, 0-3 in EAL) on Tuesday.
On tap Tuesday night: Winters is at Durham, Paradise at East Nicolaus, Core Butte at Maxwell, Biggs at Los Molinos, Live Oak at Willows, Hamilton at Williams, Las Plumas at Orland, and Gridley at Oroville
On Wednesday, the only boys’ game that is on the schedule locally is Paradise Adventist traveling to Westwood.
Thursday night, the Chico High boys travel across down to play at Pleasant Valley. That will be the 58th meeting between the two schools since 2005. Pleasant Valley has won 10 straight against the Panthers, who have not beaten the Vikings since a 55-50 victory on February 7, 2020.
In other Thursday action, Red Bluff is at Foothill.
On Friday night, Core Butte plays at Williams, Durham will travel to Colusa, Orland plays at Oroville, Biggs is at Maxwell, Paradise travels to Willows, Corning is at Las Plumas, and Los Molinos is at Hamilton.
Boys soccer
On Tuesday afternoon, Las Plumas will play at Corning in a Butte View League matchup, while Gridley plays at Orland. Pierce travels to Los Molinos in a Mid-Valley League match-up.
On Wednesday, Pleasant Valley will travel to play Enterprise, while Red Bluff comes to Chico High. Central Valley is at Oroville, and Durham travels to play Paradise.
On Thursday, Orland is at Las Plumas, Winters is at Los Molinos and Paradise is at Maxwell.
On Friday, Pleasant Valley travels to Shasta, Foothill is at Chico, and Red Bluff hosts Enterprise. Also on Friday, Durham is at Williams, and Redding Christian is at Hamilton.
Prep girls soccer
The action kicks off on Tuesday with Pierce visiting Los Molinos, defending Butte View League champion Las Plumas playing at Corning, and Gridley playing at Orland.
On Wednesday, Eastern Athletic League leader Chico (8-1) is at Red Bluff, while Pleasant Valley (11-0-1), coming off of a 1-1 tie at Foothill on Friday night, will host Enterprise. The tie at Foothill snapped an 11-game streak of shutting out their opponent for the Vikings.
In other games on Wednesday, Williams is at Hamilton, and Durham is at Paradise. On Thursday, Winters plays at Los Molinos; Pierce is at Live Oak, Willows is at Colusa, Oroville is at Gridley, Orland plays at Las Plumas, and Paradise travels to Maxwell.
On Friday night, Shasta, which is 6-1-1 on the year, will play at Pleasant Valley. Chico will play at Foothill on Friday night. At the same time, Red Bluff travels to take on Enterprise. In other Friday action, Durham is at Williams, while Hamilton is at Las Plumas.
Boys wrestling
Wednesday night, Red Bluff will host PV, Foothill and Shasta, while Chico High will step out of league duels to take on Sutter at Sutter. Corning will be at a BVL match at Las Plumas on Wednesday.
The Spartans join Chico and Corning at the Corning tournament on Saturday, when Pleasant Valley will be at the Placer Duals in Auburn.
Girls Wrestling
As with the boys, Red Bluff will host PV, Foothill and Shasta on Wednesday night, while Chico High will step out of league duels to take on Sutter at Sutter and Corning will be at a BVL match at Las Plumas.
Chico High will be wrestling Saturday at Pitman High School in the Rumble in the Jungle.
College men’s basketball
On Wednesday, Butte is at Siskiyous starting at 7 p.m., while on Thursday, Chico State travels to Los Angeles to take on Cal State LA.
On Saturday, Shasta travels to play at Butte starting at 2 p.m. An hour after that game tips off, Chico State will take on Cal State Dominguez Hills.
College women’s basketball
On Wednesday night, Butte is at Siskiyous starting at 5 p.m. On Thursday night, Chico State plays at Cal State Los Angeles, starting about a half hour after Butte takes on Siskiyous.
On Saturday at noon, Shasta plays at Butte, while Chico State hosts Cal State Dominguez Hills at 1 p.m.
