The managerial market in football is fast paced, dramatic, high stakes and often unexpected.

With United coming eighth in this year’s Premier League season, their worst finish since 1990, Erik ten Hag’s future at United is uncertain.

On the back of this unsuccessful season, United have drawn-up a four-man shortlist, identifying potentials to replace the Dutchman at Old Trafford.

The Times have reported that the list of potentials includes Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna, Brentford’s Thomas Frank, Bayern Munich’s departing manager Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea’s recent departure Mauricio Pochettino.

Throughout the week, discussions have been had with the representatives of all four candidates, with McKenna being in high demand, attracting attention from Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Chelsea are also reported to be keeping eyes on Thomas Frank, showing the competitive nature of the managerial market.

Whilst The Guardian have reported that ten Hag’s future is already decide and he and United will be parting ways after the FA Cup Final, the contingency plans at Old Trafford have reportedly been accelerated due to Chelsea’s sacking of Pochettino.

With Chelsea currently looking at two of United’s prime targets to take charge at Old Trafford, whilst releasing such a high profile manager as Pochettino, it’s clear that the situation with Chelsea will have a great effect on the management role at Old Trafford.
