A whole lot of new “alities” have hit Mortal Kombat 1 thanks to the official release of Tuesday’s Khaos Reigns update. In addition to the new Fatalities and Animalities now present in the game, NetherRealms Studios has also created new Brutalities.
Ed Boon posted a quick clip showcasing no fewer than 11 of these quick kill moves, some of which look nostalgically familiar as they call back to Fatalities of old.
Every character on the roster is getting two new Brutalities with Khaos Reigns, but you’ll need to unlock them via the seasonal store if you want to use them against your opponents.
Despite the implications of the word “seasonal,” these new Brutalities will remain in the store indefinitely, so you don’t have to rush to get them before an expiration date. Each one will cost you 6,000 koins, as per the example here:
One of the quick kills we see in the showcase involves Kung Lao’s hat acting as a kind of infinite boomerang. Those who played their share of Mortal Kombat 3 will recall one of his Fatalities that acted just like this Brutality as he tosses the hat and it zips back and forth across the screen three times, slicing the opponent in a different way with each pass.
Check out Kung Lao’s along with the 10 other new Brutalities featured in the showcase below. Let us know in the comments if you spot any familiar callbacks.
