Manchester United are looking to the January transfer window to strengthen their squad going forward.
With a limited budget, however, United are having to prioritise harnessing their existing potential instead of purchasing new star signings.
However, the club are still looking at a young midfielder as a replacement for Christian Eriksen who will be leaving in the summer.
The Red Devils are looking at Sunderland’s Chris Rigg who’s been labelled as the next “Jude Bellingham”.
Rigg signed his first professional contract this summer with the midfielder breaking into the first squad.

The Sunderland academy graduate has already grabbed nine goals and four assists in 71 matches.

United’s interest in Rigg stems back to the summer when they tried to lure the midfielder away from Sunderland before he signed his first contract.
It’s understood that Chris Rigg and his team were aware of the interest, however chose to stay with the Black Cats instead, signing a three-year deal.
Now, United are joined by Chelsea, Wolves and Crystal Palace in having interest in the 17-year-old.

However, Sunderland are aware of United’s interest but have no thoughts of selling their young star.
Now, The Northern Echo has reported that Sunderland have confirmed they are braced for formal offers for Rigg in the New Year. However, The Black Cats are very firm that they will not be accepting any offer for their prized youngster.
Sunderland are not in a position where they have to sell due to his contract or from financial pressures, putting them in a strong position to reject offers.
